Most families do not plan this. Something happened at school, or kept happening, and one evening the question stopped being whether and became how. The how is more ordinary than it feels at eleven at night: a notice to your state, a place to start, a way to keep the records, and something to teach from tomorrow morning.

What your state asks of you, in plain language

Every state is different and most are simpler than the forums make them sound. We have written up all 50: whether you file a notice and with whom, which subjects are required, what records you keep and whether there is testing, sourced from the statute and dated. Read yours before you withdraw, and confirm it with the state, because the rules change and this page is not legal advice.

Get the records before you go

Request your child's cumulative file, report cards and any evaluations before you withdraw. They are yours to have, they are harder to get afterward, and they are what a future school or evaluator will ask for. Then file the notice your state requires. Withdrawing without it is how a family ends up with a truancy letter in the first month.

Start where your child is, not where the report card says

A child leaving a hard year is often behind in one subject and ahead in another, and the grade on the report card is neither. In Letters & Devotion the grade is a setting you choose per child and change whenever you like, and you can add or remove individual courses from the whole K-12 catalog. Grade 5 reading with grade 3 math is a normal first week here, not a workaround.

A teacher on day one, so you are not one yet

Clara sits inside every lesson. She introduces the idea, asks the questions, reads the answer and explains what went wrong when it goes wrong. In the first year most parents are still learning how their child learns; the teaching does not have to wait for that. You can read every word she said afterward.

Bible every day, from the first day

Every grade carries a full Bible course, King James throughout, with a passage to read, a verse to learn by heart and questions to talk over at the table. For a lot of families this is the reason they left, and it is the first thing on the schedule rather than an add-on.

The records keep themselves from the first lesson

Instructional hours log while your child works, mastery is tracked per skill as a portfolio record, and a transcript prints in one click. If your state wants a portfolio or an evaluation in June, it is already written, and if your child ever goes back to a school, the record of what was taught goes with them.

Read all of it before you pay

All 84 courses are open in full with no account and no card, every unit, skill and objective in teaching order. A family that has just been burned by one school should not have to trust a second one on faith.

What this is not

  • It is not a school and it is not accredited. You are the school of record, it issues no diploma, and the notice to the state is yours to file.
  • It is not a repair for a bad year in a week. A child who left school anxious or behind needs time before they need pace, and nothing here is scheduled for exactly that reason.
  • It is not hands-off for young children. Below roughly third grade a child still learning to read needs you beside them for most of it.
  • Nothing on this page is legal advice. Withdrawal rules are set by your state and sometimes your district; confirm them directly.

Before your child starts: what we collect and why

We collect only what it takes to teach your child: the first name and sign-in you choose, their answers and progress, and their chat with Clara (written by Anthropic's AI, read aloud by OpenAI). Nobody trains AI on it or sells it, and you can see or delete it any time. You create your child's account yourself. Ticking the box below is how you, as the parent, give consent.

Read what we collect and why

Your consent is needed before we collect anything from your child, and we collect nothing without it. You create your child's account yourself; they never sign up alone.

  • What we collect from your child: the first name and sign-in you choose, their answers, time on lessons and progress, and their chat with Clara. Used to run the lessons, build their transcript and show you how they are doing.
  • Who else handles it: Anthropic writes Clara's replies from the chat, the lesson and your child's first name. OpenAI turns lesson text and Clara's replies into the read-aloud voice. Spoken answers are turned into text on our own server and never sent anywhere. Our email provider sends you reports. Nobody sells your child's data or uses it for anything else.
  • Your rights: see everything collected from your child, have it deleted, or stop further collection at any time, from your account or by emailing our support address. If you refuse the sharing above, Clara cannot teach, so the service cannot run. Chats are deleted after 30 days.
  • Safety: if your child writes something suggesting they may be hurt or in danger, we email you and the owner of Letters & Devotion the same day.

Ticking the box below is how you, as the parent, give that consent. Full details, including how long we keep each thing: Privacy Policy (version 2026-10-09).

Free for 30 days. No card. When the free days end, lessons pause unless you choose to subscribe, $29 a month for every child in the family. Nothing is ever charged without a card.

Questions parents ask

Do I have to tell the school I am withdrawing my child?

In most states you file a notice with the state or district and formally withdraw, and in a few you do neither. Read your state's page here for the plain-language version, then confirm it with the state. This is not legal advice.

Can I start in the middle of the school year?

Yes. Nothing here runs on a calendar. Units are bodies of work, not dates, and a child who starts in February starts at the first lesson and goes from there.

What grade do I put my child in?

The one that fits most subjects, then adjust the rest. The grade is a setting you change at any time, and individual courses from any grade can be added or removed per child.

What if my child goes back to school later?

The transcript and the per-skill mastery record print in one click and are what a receiving school asks to see. Placement is the school's decision, but you will not be reconstructing a year from memory.

Is it really Christian, or Christian-friendly?

A full Bible course in every grade, King James throughout, and the other subjects taught by people who take Scripture seriously. It teaches six-day creation as Genesis says, and leaves two choices with you at signup: whether evolution is taught alongside creation, and whether sex education is included and how far it goes.
