Ratios, Relationships, and the Number System is the grade 6 math course in Letters & Devotion, eight units and 35+ hours. It is the year a child learns to think in ratios instead of just counting differences. It follows the Common Core State Standards.

The eight units

Ratios and Rate Reasoning. Dividing Fractions. The Decimal System. Negative Numbers and the Coordinate Plane. Expressions with Variables. Equations and Proportional Relationships. Area, Surface Area, and Volume. Statistical Distributions.

One idea, nine times

For every 3 of these there are 2 of those: that multiplicative relationship is used all year, to divide fractions, to make sense of negatives, to write algebra, to compute area and volume and to describe data.

The goal by June

A child is comfortable with signed numbers, one-step equations, decimals in all four operations, basic area, volume and surface area, and describing a data set with center and spread.

What comes next

Mathematics 7 is the grade 7 course, then Pre-Algebra in grade 8.

What this is not

  • It is one course among many. You decide which to take, which to hold back and how many to do in a day.
  • It is not nine separate topics. It is one idea applied repeatedly.
  • A child who is behind is not stuck. The course is mastery paced and slows down when a child struggles.

Before your child starts: what we collect and why

We collect only what it takes to teach your child: the first name and sign-in you choose, their answers and progress, and their chat with Clara (written by Anthropic's AI, read aloud by OpenAI). Nobody trains AI on it or sells it, and you can see or delete it any time. You create your child's account yourself. Ticking the box below is how you, as the parent, give consent.

Read what we collect and why

Your consent is needed before we collect anything from your child, and we collect nothing without it. You create your child's account yourself; they never sign up alone.

  • What we collect from your child: the first name and sign-in you choose, their answers, time on lessons and progress, and their chat with Clara. Used to run the lessons, build their transcript and show you how they are doing.
  • Who else handles it: Anthropic writes Clara's replies from the chat, the lesson and your child's first name. OpenAI turns lesson text and Clara's replies into the read-aloud voice. Spoken answers are turned into text on our own server and never sent anywhere. Our email provider sends you reports. Nobody sells your child's data or uses it for anything else.
  • Your rights: see everything collected from your child, have it deleted, or stop further collection at any time, from your account or by emailing our support address. If you refuse the sharing above, Clara cannot teach, so the service cannot run. Chats are deleted after 30 days.
  • Safety: if your child writes something suggesting they may be hurt or in danger, we email you and the owner of Letters & Devotion the same day.

Ticking the box below is how you, as the parent, give that consent. Full details, including how long we keep each thing: Privacy Policy (version 2026-10-09).

Free for 30 days. No card. When the free days end, lessons pause unless you choose to subscribe, $29 a month for every child in the family. Nothing is ever charged without a card.
