Grades 3-5: Making Music
Two units, 18+ hours: Learning to Listen, and Instruments, Ensembles and the Whole World. You run one small music activity a week from a script, clapping games, kitchen instruments, listening hunts, and your child tells Clara about it in a five-minute check-in.
Grade 7: Listening Across Cultures
Four units, 16+ hours: Learning to Listen: The Elements of Music. Listening Across Continents. How Sound Is Made: Instruments and Ensembles. A Century of Change: Recording, Electronic Music, and Your Playlist.
Hearing more
A child learns to hear that a piece got louder, or that a tune repeated with a twist, and to say specifically what they heard and when.
The end of grade 7
A student picks five songs and defends in writing why those five belong together.
What this is not
- It is one course among many. You decide which to take, which to hold back and how many to do in a day.
- It is a listening course, not a performing course. Nobody is graded on singing or playing.
- It is a short elective, not a full year.
