Start 30 days freeWorld Geography: Physical Systems, Human Patterns, and Regions is a year-long grade 9 course of eight units and 54+ hours built around one question: why does human life look so different from place to place, and what actually causes that, not what is the capital.
The eight units
The Geographer's Toolkit: Maps, Scale, and Physical Systems. Population and Culture: Where People Live and Why. Economic Geography: Development, Trade, and Inequality. Political Geography: Borders, Sovereignty, and Conflict. Regional Study: The Americas. Regional Study: Europe. Regional Study: Africa and the Middle East. Regional Study and Capstone Synthesis: Asia and the Pacific.
A toolkit first
Climate, resources, colonialism, borders and trade are learned in the first third of the year.
Then regions
The rest of the year uses the same toolkit on real regions of the world.
The goal by June
A child can hear a news story about a conflict or an economic crisis somewhere and explain the physical, economic and political reasons behind it.
What this is not
- It is one course among many. You decide which to take, which to hold back and how many to do in a day.
- It cannot promise any college will accept a homeschool transcript. It prints one of what was taught and mastered, and your family issues it.
- It is not a memorize-the-map course.
