The eight units
Proportional Relationships. Operations with Rational Numbers. Expressions and Multi-Step Equations. Scale Drawings and Geometric Constructions. Angle Relationships and Area. Circles, Surface Area, and Volume. Introduction to Probability. Sampling and Statistical Inference.
Fall: what proportional means
A child pins down what proportional really means and computes with negatives, fractions and decimals the same way.
Winter: algebra
Expressions and equations they can solve and explain.
Spring: geometry, then chance
Scale drawings, angles, circles and solids, finishing with probability and sampling, which is ratios and rates under a different name.
What this is not
- It is one course among many. You decide which to take, which to hold back and how many to do in a day.
- It is not a recipe course. The aim is to ask is this proportional, and what is actually equal to what.
- A child who is behind is not stuck. The course is mastery paced and slows down when a child struggles.
