The list below comes straight from the course catalog.
Physical education
Physical Education for Grades 3-5, Physical Education for Grades 6-8 and Physical Education for grades 9-12 are four units each, and so is Physical Education II: Training, Sport and Self-Coaching for grades 10-12. PE is deliberately off screen and gives you a weekly plan of what to go and do.
Art
Seeing and Making: Visual Art for Grades 3-5 has two units, and Seeing and Making: An Introduction to Visual Art for grade 7 has four. Seeing and Meaning: A History of Visual Analysis, for grade 10, has eight units but is listed in the catalog under social studies, so treat it as art history rather than studio art.
Music
Making Music: Music Appreciation for Grades 3-5 has two units, and Listening Across Cultures: An Introduction to Music Appreciation for grade 7 has four. Both are titled as music appreciation, so read their unit lists before assuming more.
Spanish
Spanish for Middle School, titled Empecemos (grades 6-8, four units), Spanish I (grades 9-12, five units) and Spanish II (grades 10-12, five units). In language courses Clara talks with your child in Spanish and English, uses more Spanish as they cope, and corrects by restating rather than lecturing.
The other electives
Health for Grades 3-5, Health for Middle School and Health Literacy and Personal Well-Being (grade 9). Personal Finance (grade 9), Computer Science Principles (grade 10), Speech and Communication (grade 10) and Philosophy and Logic (grade 12) round out the high school list. The family also chooses the sex education setting at signup.
What this is not
- There is no PE, art, music or Spanish course for kindergarten through grade 2. Those years have reading, social studies, science, math and Bible.
- Art and music are thin. There is no art course for grades 6, 8, 9, 11 or 12 and no music course for grade 6 or grades 8 through 12, and the grades 3-5 courses are two units each against eight for a core course.
- Spanish is the only world language, and it starts in middle school. And because PE is off screen on purpose, getting your child to do it is up to you.
