Homeschooling a grandchild
Free for 30 days. No card.
Every course in every grade, for every child in the family. Lessons pause when the free days end unless you choose to subscribe.
Start 30 days freeYou did not expect to be doing this again, and the algebra has changed since you did it the first time. What has not changed is what a child needs: someone who explains, a Bible on the table, and a grown-up who can see how the day went. The first of those does not have to be you.
You do not have to re-learn seventh grade to teach it
Clara sits inside every lesson. She introduces the idea, asks the questions, reads the answer and explains the specific mistake in it. Your part is to be there, to read how the day went and to sit with whatever your grandchild got stuck on, not to teach proportional reasoning from a manual.
You can read every word said to your grandchild
From the grandparent's side you can open any lesson and read the whole conversation, in the order it was said. Not a summary and not a score. If a machine is going to talk to a child in your house, you should be able to see exactly what it said, and you can. Conversations are kept for 30 days and then deleted.
No schedule to keep
No deadlines and no weekly schedule to fall behind. A child who has arrived in your home after a hard stretch needs time before pace, and the curriculum is built so that taking a month on one unit costs nothing.
Bible every day, King James
Every grade carries a full Bible course in the King James text, with a passage to read together, a verse to learn by heart and questions to talk over. Many grandparents grew up on that translation; it is the one your grandchild will learn from.
The records a caseworker, a court or a school may ask for
Instructional hours log automatically, mastery is tracked per skill as a portfolio record, and a transcript prints in one click. When someone official asks what the child has been taught, the answer is already written and dated.

What this is not
- It does not settle who may homeschool. In many states the person homeschooling must be the parent or legal guardian, and a grandparent without guardianship may need the parent to file the notice or may need to establish guardianship first. This is a state question and a legal one; ask your state and, if needed, a lawyer.
- It needs a device and an internet connection, and someone in the house comfortable enough to sign in and open a lesson. The courses are also sold as printable PDFs, but the teaching itself happens on a device.
- It is not childcare and it is not therapy. A child who has come through loss or disruption may need more than a curriculum, and we would rather say so.
- The youngest still need an adult beside them. Below roughly third grade a child still learning to read cannot run a lesson alone.

Questions parents ask
Can a grandparent legally homeschool a grandchild?
It depends on the state and on who holds legal custody or guardianship. Some states require the person homeschooling to be the parent or legal guardian; others allow other arrangements. Read your state's page here for the plain-language version, then confirm it with the state. This is not legal advice.
I have not done algebra in forty years. Can I still do this?
Yes. Clara does the teaching inside the lesson, including the algebra. You review afterward and sit with whatever was hard, which is reading, not re-teaching.
How much time will it take me each day?
Less than teaching, not zero. Older children work through lessons with the teacher built in; younger ones need you beside them. Reviewing a day from the parent view takes a few minutes.
Is it hard to set up?
It runs in any browser on a phone, tablet or computer with nothing to install. You make one account, add the child and pick a grade. If you can send an email you can do this, and there is a person to write to if you get stuck.
How much is it?
$29 a month for every child in the household, with the first 30 days free and no card needed. When they end, lessons pause unless you choose to subscribe.
