Bible: The Gospels and Acts, a Fourth Grade Year fills that blank by telling the life of Jesus once, in the order it happened, then continues into Acts. It is four units, 60+ hours, read from the King James.
The four units
Who Jesus Is. What Jesus Taught. The Cross and the Empty Tomb. The Church Begins. Each is nine weeks and about 100 minutes a week.
From the manger to the first sign
Unit 1 begins before the manger with John's opening sentence, then goes through the angel and Mary, Bethlehem, the wise men and the night escape, the boy who stayed behind, the baptism and forty days hungry. It ends with the first disciples leaving a full boat and the first sign at a wedding.
Six weeks on one sermon
Unit 2 takes the Sermon on the Mount from the Beatitudes through prayer, treasure and the two houses. It then spends three weeks on the sower, the good Samaritan and the son who came back to a running father.
One notebook, one question, three times
Your child keeps a single notebook for the whole year and writes four or five sentences of each week's passage. In week 1, week 20 and week 36 it asks the same question, who do you say that I am, and in week 36 your child reads all three answers aloud.
Nine weeks for Jerusalem
The Cross and the Empty Tomb runs from five thousand fed through Peter's confession, the last supper, the garden and the courtyard fire. The crucifixion gets a week with no craft in it. Then Acts shows the story did not stop, from Pentecost to Paul to Rome.
What this is not
- It is not graded. Narrating each passage back with the Bible shut is the main work of the course and the whole assessment, and there is nothing to score.
- It is not free of hard weeks. Herod kills the little boys of Bethlehem in week 4, the crucifixion has a week of its own, and Stephen is stoned in week 32, and the guide asks you to read each one first.
- It is not built to head off doubt. The guide expects the question of whether it happened to arrive around the miracles, and says a child who says out loud they do not believe something is doing the reading.

Questions parents ask
Does my child read the King James?
Part of it, aloud. The guide has you read the passage, and your child reads a good part themselves. The 'what happens' lines are for you to say in your own words and are not scripture.
What do I need to gather?
A Bible, one notebook used for nothing else, and something to write with. A few weeks want household things: salt in week 11, a tray of sand and a flat stone in week 15, four pots and seeds in week 16, and a world map you can mark.
How do I know it is working?
Your child tells somebody the story without being asked and argues with it out loud, including with you. The guide says at nine a question you cannot answer is a better sign than quick agreement.
What does it cost?
$29 a month or $290 a year for every child. The first 30 days are free with no card.
