Start 30 days freeYes, there is a complete Christian homeschool curriculum for grades 1 to 5: Letters & Devotion has a King James Bible course, math, science, English and social studies for each of those years, plus music, art, PE and Health for grades 3 to 5, with Clara, the teacher, built into the lessons. The one thing to know up front is that grades 1 and 2 share three combined K-2 courses (phonics, science and social studies) rather than having grade-specific ones.
Grades 1 and 2
Grade 1 has Bible: Out of Egypt, a First Grade Year in Exodus and Joshua (4 units) and Tens, Ones, and Adventures: Grade 1 Mathematics (8 units). Grade 2 has Bible: Kings, Prophets and a Promise (4 units) and Number, Shape, and Measure: Grade 2 Mathematics (8 units). Both years also use the K-2 courses: Learning to Read: Systematic Phonics (5 units), Science Explorations (4 units) and My World: Social Studies (4 units).
Grade 3
Bible: The Old Testament, a Third Grade Survey (4 units), Number, Shape, and Pattern: Grade 3 Mathematics (8 units) and Reading, Thinking, Writing: Grade 3 English Language Arts (8 units). Science is Investigating Our World: Forces, Life, and Earth Systems (9 units) and social studies is Communities Near and Far (8 units).
Grades 4 and 5
Grade 4 is Bible: The Gospels and Acts, Grade 4 Mathematics: Place Value, Operations, and Fractions, Reading and Writing with Evidence, Energy, Waves, and Living Systems (9 units) and Regions of the United States: Land, People, and Government. Grade 5 is Bible: Letters, Wisdom and the Whole Story, Place Value, Parts, and Space, Reading Closely, Writing Clearly, Matter, Systems, and the Sky (8 units) and The American Story Begins: Peoples, Contact, and a New Nation. In these two years everything is 8 units except the Bible courses (4 units) and grade 4 science (9 units).
Music, art, PE and Health, from grade 3
Four shared courses cover grades 3-5: Making Music: Music Appreciation (2 units), Seeing and Making: Visual Art (2 units), Physical Education (4 units) and Health for Grades 3-5 (5 units). PE is off screen and comes with a weekly plan of what to go do.
Standards and the Christian position
Math and English follow the Common Core State Standards and science follows NGSS. The grade 3 and grade 4 science courses carry the Creation units that teach six-day creation, and each family chooses at signup whether evolution is ever shown alongside them.
What this is not
- Grades 1 and 2 have no grade-specific English, science or social studies course. They use the K-2 phonics, science and social studies courses, so English in those two years is the phonics course, and grade-level English language arts begins in grade 3.
- There is no music, art, PE or Health course for grades 1 and 2, because those begin at grades 3-5, and no foreign language in elementary; Spanish begins in the middle school years.
- Lessons are on screen, roughly 30 to 50 minutes per subject per day (PE excepted), taught by Clara, an artificial intelligence. It is not accredited and does not issue a diploma.
