Start 30 days freeYes. Chemistry in the Kitchen and Beyond: Matter, Energy, and Change is a grade 10 course of eight units and 60+ hours, done with kitchen equipment instead of a lab. It is in line with the Next Generation Science Standards.
The eight units
Describing Matter. Inside the Atom: Structure and the Periodic Table. Chemical Bonding. Counting the Uncountable: The Mole and Stoichiometry. Gases and the Kinetic Molecular Model. Solutions: Concentration and Solubility. Rates and Equilibrium. Acids, Bases, and Electron Transfer.
Real measurement at home
A child measures real stuff, separates a real mixture, weighs gases they cannot see, and eventually runs a titration with red cabbage juice as an indicator.
Real math, in service
The math is real, moles, molarity and gas laws, but it is always in service of explaining something they can watch happen on the counter.
The aim
By June a student can look at an unfamiliar substance or reaction and reason about what is happening at the level of atoms and molecules.
What this is not
- It is one course among many. You decide which to take, which to hold back and how many to do in a day.
- It is a kitchen chemistry course, not a lab course with specialist equipment.
- It cannot promise any college will accept a homeschool transcript. It prints one of what was taught and mastered, and your family issues it.

Questions parents ask
Does a student need Algebra first?
The math is real, so it pairs with Algebra I, which is the grade 9 math course. You can set each course to the grade that fits your child.
Does it count toward a high school transcript?
Hours log themselves and a transcript of what was taught and mastered prints in one click. There is also a free transcript maker at /homeschool-transcript that needs no account.
What does it cost?
$29 a month or $290 a year for every child. The first 30 days are free with no card.
