You can see what the AI says: in Letters & Devotion, parents can read every conversation Clara, the AI teacher, has with their child, and no web page can honestly promise that an AI is safe, so this one only shows what you can inspect. Clara teaches lessons that are written and fixed in advance, and you can watch her work in a sample lesson before your child ever uses her.

Clara is an AI, and the child is told

Clara is an artificial intelligence, not a human tutor. She does not pretend to be human, and neither do her cartoon study-crew companions: your child is told directly. She can read aloud, and you can mute her at any time.

You can read every conversation

From the parent side you can open any lesson and read the full conversation between Clara and your child, in the order it was said, with no summary in between. The dashboard also shows what each child worked on, what they mastered and where they are stuck.

What she teaches is fixed in advance

Every course's units, skills and questions are fixed, published and reviewable by you before your child sees them, and each lesson follows a plan written by a professor with a PhD in education. Clara teaches the course; she does not make it up as she goes. Grades are derived from mastery of the skills in each course.

A teacher at work, not an open chatbot

The How Clara Teaches guide at /resources/how-clara-teaches states that she does not chat off-course: she is a teacher at work, not an open chatbot with your child. The guide also explains how she changes her speech for different ages, and what she deliberately does not do.

Watch her before your child does

The full sample lesson at /sample needs no account and no card. Read it yourself, or sit beside your child for it. The first 30 days of the whole curriculum are also free with no card.

What this is not

  • This page cannot promise that an AI is safe for your child. It makes no claims about content filtering or data handling beyond what is stated above, and it will not invent any.
  • Clara can be wrong, which is one reason every conversation is open to you. The check only works if you actually read them, and conversations are kept for 30 days and then deleted, so you cannot look back further.
  • Clara does not replace you. Many lessons expect a parent at the table, and you decide what your child studies.

What grade(s)? (so their first lesson is ready)

Before your child starts: what we collect and why

We collect only what it takes to teach your child: the first name and sign-in you choose, their answers and progress, and their chat with Clara (written by Anthropic's AI, read aloud by OpenAI). Nobody trains AI on it or sells it, and you can see or delete it any time. You create your child's account yourself. Ticking the box below is how you, as the parent, give consent.

Read what we collect and why

Your consent is needed before we collect anything from your child, and we collect nothing without it. You create your child's account yourself; they never sign up alone.

  • What we collect from your child: the first name and sign-in you choose, their answers, time on lessons and progress, and their chat with Clara. Used to run the lessons, build their transcript and show you how they are doing.
  • Who else handles it: Anthropic writes Clara's replies from the chat, the lesson and your child's first name. OpenAI turns lesson text and Clara's replies into the read-aloud voice. Spoken answers are turned into text on our own server and never sent anywhere. Our email provider sends you reports. Nobody sells your child's data or uses it for anything else.
  • Your rights: see everything collected from your child, have it deleted, or stop further collection at any time, from your account or by emailing our support address. If you refuse the sharing above, Clara cannot teach, so the service cannot run. Chats are deleted after 30 days.
  • Safety: if your child writes something suggesting they may be hurt or in danger, we email you and the owner of Letters & Devotion the same day.

Ticking the box below is how you, as the parent, give that consent. Full details, including how long we keep each thing: Privacy Policy (version 2026-10-09).

Free for 30 days. No card. When the free days end, lessons pause unless you choose to subscribe, $29 a month for every child in the family. Nothing is ever charged without a card.

Questions parents ask

Can I see what the AI says to my child?

Yes. Parents can open any lesson and read the whole conversation in order. Conversations are kept for 30 days and then deleted.

Is Clara a real person?

No. Clara is an artificial intelligence, and your child is told so directly.

Does the AI make up the lessons as it goes?

No. Each course's units, skills and questions are fixed and published before your child sees them, and Clara teaches that course. The How Clara Teaches guide covers this in detail.

How can I check Clara before my child uses her?

Work through the sample lesson at /sample, which needs no account, and read the guide at /resources/how-clara-teaches. The first 30 days are free with no card.
