What Abeka is
Abeka has published Christian school and homeschool curriculum since 1972 and is affiliated with Pensacola Christian College. It comes in two distinct forms: a parent-led set of textbooks, teacher editions and day-by-day lesson plans, or Abeka Academy, a streamed or DVD video program taught by an on-screen teacher, with an optional accredited enrolment that adds record-keeping, report cards and a transcript. It covers preschool through grade 12 and has built its reputation on a rigorous, traditional, tightly scheduled approach that generations of families, in both Christian schools and homeschools, have used and trusted.
The pricing difference that actually decides it
Abeka prices per child, per grade and per format rather than per household. A parent-led set of books for one grade is priced on its own; the same grade taught through Abeka Academy video lessons costs more, and splits further into an unaccredited Video Instruction enrolment or an accredited one that adds record-keeping, report cards and a transcript for an additional charge. There is no discount for a second or third child, and a video enrolment runs on a fixed school-year calendar with its own cancellation and material-return rules, so check the grade and format you actually want on their own pricing page rather than assume one number covers it.
Letters & Devotion is $29 a month for every child in the household, month to month, with no per-child seats and no course limits. That is $348 a year whether you have one child or four, or $290 a year on the annual plan. The first 30 days are free, a card is taken and nothing is charged until day 30, and cancelling before then costs nothing.

Abeka states this directly in its statement of faith and teaches from it, and if that is what you want for your child's science education, that is a real and sufficient reason to buy from them instead of us.
- You want a real teacher delivering every lesson on video and a full school year already scheduled day by day. Abeka Academy hands the actual teaching to a teacher on screen; Letters & Devotion teaches through written conversation with an AI tutor instead, and if you want a human teacher on video rather than a text-based one, they built exactly that.
- You want an accredited enrolment with report cards and a transcript issued by the school itself. Abeka Academy offers that for an additional cost. Letters & Devotion is a curriculum, not an accredited school, and issues no diploma or transcript of its own.
- You want decades of use inside real Christian schools as well as homeschools. Abeka has been doing this since 1972 and is affiliated with Pensacola Christian College; Letters & Devotion launched recently, and if a long track record matters to you, that should count against us rather than being argued away.
Where Letters & Devotion is different
Genesis read differently, said out loud
Abeka's statement of faith teaches a recent, literal creation and rejects an evolutionary, millions-of-years account of life's history. Letters & Devotion teaches an old earth, deep time and common ancestry, as the evidence has them, alongside a King James Bible course every year, and says plainly that faithful Christians read Genesis 1 differently rather than one side being unfaithful. If a recent, literal creation is what you want taught as settled fact, choose Abeka.

Does Abeka teach the same view of origins as Letters & Devotion?
No, and this is probably the most important difference between the two. Abeka's statement of faith teaches a recent, literal creation. We checked in September 2026 and the sources contradicted each other, including the companies' own pages against the review sites. Publishing a competitor's price that turns out to be wrong is unfair to them and useless to you, and any figure here would be out of date within a month anyway.
