What Abeka is

Abeka has published Christian school and homeschool curriculum since 1972 and is affiliated with Pensacola Christian College. It comes in two distinct forms: a parent-led set of textbooks, teacher editions and day-by-day lesson plans, or Abeka Academy, a streamed or DVD video program taught by an on-screen teacher, with an optional accredited enrolment that adds record-keeping, report cards and a transcript. It covers preschool through grade 12 and has built its reputation on a rigorous, traditional, tightly scheduled approach that generations of families, in both Christian schools and homeschools, have used and trusted.

The pricing difference that actually decides it

Abeka prices per child, per grade and per format rather than per household. A parent-led set of books for one grade is priced on its own; the same grade taught through Abeka Academy video lessons costs more, and splits further into an unaccredited Video Instruction enrolment or an accredited one that adds record-keeping, report cards and a transcript for an additional charge. There is no discount for a second or third child, and a video enrolment runs on a fixed school-year calendar with its own cancellation and material-return rules, so check the grade and format you actually want on their own pricing page rather than assume one number covers it.

Letters & Devotion is $29 a month for every child in the household, month to month, with no per-child seats and no course limits. That is $348 a year whether you have one child or four, or $290 a year on the annual plan. The first 30 days are free with no card, and when they end, lessons pause unless you choose to subscribe.

When Abeka is the better choice

  • You want the publisher, not you, to have settled what your child hears about origins. Abeka's statement of faith decides it for every family and nothing else is ever presented. Here creation is taught to every child and whether evolution is taught alongside is your choice at signup; if you would rather not be asked, that is a fair reason to choose Abeka.
  • You want a real teacher delivering every lesson on video and a full school year already scheduled day by day. Abeka Academy hands the actual teaching to a teacher on screen; Letters & Devotion teaches through written conversation with an AI tutor instead, and if you want a human teacher on video rather than a text-based one, they built exactly that.
  • You want an accredited enrolment with report cards and a transcript issued by the school itself. Abeka Academy offers that for an additional cost. Letters & Devotion is a curriculum, not an accredited school, and issues no diploma or transcript of its own.
  • You want decades of use inside real Christian schools as well as homeschools. Abeka has been doing this since 1972 and is affiliated with Pensacola Christian College; Letters & Devotion launched recently, and if a long track record matters to you, that should count against us rather than being argued away.

Where Letters & Devotion is different

Creation taught, and the choice left with you

Both curricula teach a six-day creation. Abeka's statement of faith rejects an evolutionary, millions-of-years account and never presents it. Letters & Devotion teaches creation to every child and lets each family choose, at signup, whether the evolution lessons are taught alongside it as what mainstream science says, or never shown. Sex education is a family choice here too, from none to puberty plus marriage, purity and abstinence.

One price for the household, not per child per format

Clara reads the wrong answer your child actually gave and explains the specific mistake in it, in conversation, rather than a recorded lesson followed by a graded quiz. From the parent side you can read every conversation afterward, in order, kept for 30 days and then deleted.

We collect only what it takes to teach your child: the first name and sign-in you choose, their answers and progress, and their chat with Clara (written by Anthropic's AI, read aloud by OpenAI). Nobody trains AI on it or sells it, and you can see or delete it any time. You create your child's account yourself. Ticking the box below is how you, as the parent, give consent.

Your consent is needed before we collect anything from your child, and we collect nothing without it. You create your child's account yourself; they never sign up alone.

  • What we collect from your child: the first name and sign-in you choose, their answers, time on lessons and progress, and their chat with Clara. Used to run the lessons, build their transcript and show you how they are doing.
  • Who else handles it: Anthropic writes Clara's replies from the chat, the lesson and your child's first name. OpenAI turns lesson text and Clara's replies into the read-aloud voice. Spoken answers are turned into text on our own server and never sent anywhere. Our email provider sends you reports. Nobody sells your child's data or uses it for anything else.
  • Your rights: see everything collected from your child, have it deleted, or stop further collection at any time, from your account or by emailing our support address. If you refuse the sharing above, Clara cannot teach, so the service cannot run. Chats are deleted after 30 days.
  • Safety: if your child writes something suggesting they may be hurt or in danger, we email you and the owner of Letters & Devotion the same day.

Does Abeka teach the same view of origins as Letters & Devotion?

Yes on creation: both teach a recent, literal creation. The difference is what else your child hears. Abeka presents nothing else. Letters & Devotion lets you choose whether evolution is taught alongside creation, and your child never sees those lessons unless you turn them on.

Is Abeka Academy the same price as the books?

No. Abeka prices per child, per grade and per format, and a parent-led book set costs a different amount than Abeka Academy's video lessons for the same grade, before you even choose between unaccredited Video Instruction and an accredited enrolment. Which one is accredited?

Why there is no price for Abeka on this page

We checked in September 2026 and the sources contradicted each other, including the companies' own pages against the review sites. Publishing a competitor's price that turns out to be wrong is unfair to them and useless to you, and any figure here would be out of date within a month anyway. Ours is above, because it is ours and we can stand behind it. Theirs is one click away, on their site, where it is current.
