Homeschooling in Connecticut
Nothing is legally required. The state publishes a suggested notice, and filing it is your choice, not an obligation.
Getting started (notice)
none required by law. The Department of Education publishes an optional notice of intent, filed with your superintendent within 10 days of starting, which creates a presumption that you are providing equivalent instruction. Many families never file one.
Required subjects
the statute asks for instruction in reading, writing, spelling, English grammar, geography, arithmetic and United States history and citizenship. No syllabus is approved by anyone.
Records you must keep
none required. An annual portfolio review by the district is voluntary and can be declined.
Testing / evaluation
none. Homeschooled students are not subject to Connecticut's mastery testing.
